Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Pediatric Oncology
  • Surgical Oncology

Background:

  • Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare malignancy that can occur in the genitourinary tract.
  • Lower urinary tract obstruction is a potential complication of pelvic tumors in young patients.

Observation:

  • A young male presented with lower urinary tract obstruction.
  • The obstruction was caused by a bladder-prostate embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma.

Findings:

  • Initial treatment with multiagent chemotherapy and radiotherapy aimed to preserve bladder function.
  • Radical cystoprostatectomy became necessary to achieve tumor control.
  • Prognostic factors for this condition are discussed.

Implications:
