The hammock suspension technique for hip spica cast application in children utilizes a classic suspension system to support infants during application of the hip spica cast. The suspension system is simple and safe, and requires only readily available materials. The suspension system is exceptionally well-tolerated by infants. This technique was used in nine infants with femur fractures. All fractures healed. This technique requires a minimum of skilled assistance and proved useful in children under 2 years of age. This technique is suggested as an extremely practical method of performing this common orthopaedic procedure.
