Adult T-cell leukaemia (ATL), caused by human T-lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I), is prevalent in Japan. Diagnosis involves detecting HTLV-I proviral DNA in tumor cells, with varied subtypes and poor prognosis for aggressive forms.
