Summary

Thyroid hormone resistance syndrome (RTH) involves high thyroid hormones and poor tissue response. Genetic analysis suggests GRTH and PRTH are one disorder, but clinical differences guide treatment.

Background:

  • Thyroid hormone resistance syndrome (RTH) is a rare endocrine disorder.
  • Characterized by elevated thyroid hormones, inappropriate TSH secretion, and reduced tissue response.
  • Traditionally classified into generalized (GRTH) and pituitary (PRTH) forms based on clinical presentation.

  • To investigate the relationship between GRTH and PRTH.
  • To evaluate the role of thyroid hormone receptor beta (TR beta) gene mutations.
  • To understand the variability in clinical manifestations of RTH.
