    Summary

Electropiezolithotripsy (EPL) using Piezolit-2300 impulses shows minimal impact on kidney function. This minimally invasive method is suitable for outpatient treatment and repeat procedures for kidney stones.

    Area of Science:

    • Nephrology
    • Urology
    • Medical Engineering

    Background:

    • Electropiezolithotripsy (EPL) is an emerging technique for kidney stone management.
    • Assessing the impact of EPL impulses on renal parenchyma is crucial for patient safety.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the effects of "Piezolit-2300" impulses on renal parenchyma during EPL.
    • To assess kidney function and integrity post-EPL.

    Main Methods:

    • Dynamic nephroscintigraphy with 131I-hippuran in 10 patients.
    • Indirect angiography with 99mTc-Mag3 in 10 patients.
    • Measurements taken pre-EPL and 24 hours post-EPL.

    Main Results:

    • No significant changes observed in the target or contralateral kidney.
    • The high-pressure, small focal zone of the generator minimizes renal parenchyma trauma.
    • The method demonstrated minor traumatism.

    Conclusions:

    • EPL with "Piezolit-2300" is safe for renal parenchyma.
    • The minimally invasive nature allows for outpatient application.
    • Repeat procedures are feasible for large kidney stones.
