[Modified method of blood perfusion via xenospleen in patients with peritonitis]

The authors compare the therapeutic efficacies of blood perfusion via porcine spleen and of discrete plasmapheresis followed by perfusion of formed elements of the blood via the porcine spleen by their own accord, included in the postoperative multiple-modality treatment of patients with the toxic and terminal phases of diffuse peritonitis. Discrete plasmapheresis followed by perfusion of formed elements of the blood via the xenospleen by their own accord yielded a more marked detoxifying and immunomodulating effect than hemosplenosorption, was simple to perform and associated with no complications. Use of this method in patients with diffuse peritonitis improved the efficacy of surgical treatment at the expense of reduction in the incidence of the postoperative complications and decreased mortality rates.
