Area of Science:

  • Ophthalmology
  • Medical Imaging

Background:

  • Indocyanine-green (ICG) angiography has seen renewed interest due to technological advancements.
  • Digital imaging systems have improved the potential of ICG angiography.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To review the diagnostic value of ICG angiography in various choroidopathies based on extensive clinical experience.
  • To update on the applications of ICG angiography in ischemic, tumor, idiopathic, inflammatory, and neovascularized choroidal diseases.

Main Methods:

  • Review of 3,000 cases utilizing ICG angiography.
  • Evaluation of diagnostic utility across different categories of choroidal abnormalities.

Main Results:

  • ICG angiography has limited value in ischemic diseases due to poor imaging of the choriocapillaris.

Related Experiment Videos

  • The technique provides limited diagnostic information for choroidal tumors.
  • Valuable insights into the pathogenesis of idiopathic diseases were obtained.
  • Preliminary findings in inflammatory diseases are promising.
  • Significant advancements in imaging "occult"-choroidal neovascularization were achieved.
  • Conclusions:

    • ICG angiography is a valuable tool for specific choroidal diseases, particularly inflammatory and neovascular conditions.
    • Improved imaging of choroidal neovascularization facilitates ICG-guided laser treatment.
    • Further research is needed to enhance its utility in ischemic diseases and tumors.
