Abstract:
The CT appearance of hepatic infarction is only described in a few cases in the literature. The description is of well circumscribed areas of low-attenuation, often wedge-shaped and extending to the periphery of the liver. We present a case where infarction of the liver, caused by a dissecting aneurysm of the aorta, was diagnosed by CT-scanning. Our CT scan revealed large, confluent, poorly circumscribed and hypodense areas in the liver consistent with an atypical appearance of hepatic infarction. The patient died shortly after the scanning, and autopsy confirmed infarction of the liver.
