Pattern reversal visual evoked potentials (PR-VEPs) reveal subclinical visual pathway changes in minor head injury (MHI) patients. These objective, noninvasive tests show improvements over 30 days post-trauma.

Background:

  • Minor head injury (MHI) can affect the visual pathway, often without overt symptoms.
  • Objective, noninvasive diagnostic tools are needed to detect subclinical visual system involvement in MHI.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate potential visual pathway affection in MHI patients.
  • To evaluate the utility of pattern reversal visual evoked potentials (PR-VEPs) as an objective tool for detecting subclinical visual system changes in MHI.

Main Methods:

  • PR-VEPs were recorded in 50 MHI patients on days 1 and 30 post-trauma.
  • Data were compared to 20 healthy controls.
  • P100 latency and amplitude were analyzed, with no significant differences noted between MHI patients and controls initially.
