[Better knowledge about HLA-molecules gives new therapeutic options]

HLA molecules play a central role in the initiation and perpetuation of immune responses. Our knowledge about the structure and function of these molecules has increased considerably in the last few years. This has opened up for new therapeutic options in auto-immune diseases and cancer, and has greatly improved the outcome of organ transplantation. In this review, the author presents some of the new possibilities of manipulating immune responses via the HLA molecules.
