Area of Science:

  • Gastroenterology
  • Surgical Pathology
  • Oncology

Context:

  • Retrospective analysis of gallbladder polypoid lesions at Belén Hospital, Trujillo, Perú (1966-1993).
  • Evaluated 27 patients (25 benign, 2 malignant polyps).
  • Associated findings included cholelithiasis (68%) and cholesterolosis (12%).

Purpose:

  • To elucidate the clinicopathological aspects of gallbladder polypoid lesions.
  • To analyze patient demographics, symptoms, and imaging findings.
  • To classify microscopic lesion types and assess lesion size.

Summary:

  • Median age 48.8 years, male:female ratio 1:4. Right upper quadrant pain was the primary symptom (100%).
  • Microscopic classification: Hyperplasias (11), adenomas (10), cholesterol polyps (2), inflammatory polyps (2), malignant polyps (2).
