Summary

Alimentary hyperlipemia, or high blood fat from meals, did not significantly impact pulmonary diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (DLco) during rest or exercise in men. This study investigated the effects of dietary fat on lung function during physical activity.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effect of alimentary hyperlipemia on steady-state pulmonary diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (DLco) at rest and during exercise.
  • To determine if increased serum lipids alter lung diffusing capacity.

Main Methods:

  • Twelve healthy men underwent DLco measurements after fasting and after ingesting a high-fat meal.
  • DLco was assessed at rest, during 49-watt cycling, and at a heart rate of 150 bpm.
  • Serum optical density was measured to quantify lipemia, with data analyzed using ANOVA.

Conclusions:
