Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Surgical Case Reports

Background:

  • Inguinal hernias involving the bladder are rare conditions.
  • They can present with lower urinary tract symptoms or be incidentally discovered.

Observation:

  • Case 1: A 55-year-old male presented with dysuria and a palpable inguinal mass, diagnosed with bladder hernia and bladder neck contracture.
  • Case 2: A 37-year-old male with a history of ureteral stone and prostatitis was incidentally found to have a small inguinal bladder hernia without urinary symptoms.

Findings:

  • Diagnostic workup included upright drip infusion pyelography (DIP), retrograde urethrography, cystoscopy, and urodynamic studies.
  • Findings confirmed bladder hernia and associated conditions like bladder neck contracture and diverticulum in Case 1.
  • Case 2 demonstrated an asymptomatic inguinal bladder hernia.

Implications:

  • Surgical intervention, including hernia repair and prostatectomy, was performed for symptomatic bladder hernia with bladder neck contracture.
  • Conservative management was chosen for an asymptomatic inguinal bladder hernia.
  • These cases highlight the varied presentation and management strategies for inguinal bladder hernias.
