Summary

Basic fibroblast growth factor (b-FGF) shows therapeutic promise in ophthalmology but can cause sight-threatening vitreoretinal issues at higher doses. Doses up to 2 micrograms are safe, while 4 micrograms or more induce proliferative changes.
