Abstract:
An 11-year-old boy presented with epistaxis and proptosis. Plain X-ray revealed a bony mass in the nasal cavity. Computed tomography showed a high-density mass which at surgery turned out to be a meningioma.
Insights
A rare pediatric nasal cavity meningioma caused epistaxis and proptosis in an 11-year-old boy. Imaging confirmed a high-density mass, surgically identified as a meningioma.
Area of Science:
- Neuroscience
- Pediatric Oncology
- Otorhinolaryngology
Background:
- Meningiomas are typically intracranial tumors arising from meningothelial cells.
- Nasal cavity meningiomas are exceptionally rare, particularly in pediatric populations.
Observation:
- An 11-year-old male presented with recurrent epistaxis and proptosis.
- Initial plain X-ray imaging demonstrated a bony mass within the nasal cavity.
Findings:
- Computed tomography (CT) revealed a high-density mass.
- Surgical exploration confirmed the mass to be a meningioma.
Implications:
- This case highlights the importance of considering rare diagnoses in pediatric head and neck masses.
- Accurate imaging and surgical intervention are crucial for diagnosis and management of sinonasal tumors.
