Abstract:
Especially in later stages, persons with HIV frequently experience changes in mental status. Providing accurate mental health assessment of persons with HIV is an essential aspect of quality nursing care. Physical, cognitive and affective symptoms often overlap for the person in the later stages of HIV disease, making the assessment process more complicated. Using the current information and a few simple neuropsychological tests can help nurses avoid some of the more common problems in mental health assessment of persons with HIV.
