Laser therapy is an effective treatment for severe retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). The pathophysiology and classification of ROP are reviewed. The treatment regimen and nursing care involved with the use of lasers are described, including patient education. Laser therapy and cryotherapy are compared in terms of pain, infection, tissue damage, procedure time, and patient outcomes.
