Summary

Two young Beagles experienced cardiovascular issues. Histology revealed severe sclerosis in sinoatrial node arteries, causing significant narrowing and potential heart rhythm problems.

Observation:

  • Two 11-month-old female Beagles presented with clinical signs related to the cardiovascular system.
  • Histological examination revealed identical changes in the sinoatrial node arteries of both dogs.

Findings:

  • The primary finding was severe sclerosis of the sinoatrial node arteries.
  • Histologic changes included intimal thickening, medial hypertrophy, fibrosis, smooth muscle cell proliferation, and elastic fiber abnormalities.
  • These changes led to marked luminal narrowing of the affected arteries.
