Counselling is an extremely powerful tool, a vital skill to acquire in general practice today. Nevertheless, it must be used wisely and not prescribed wholesale. This article discusses counselling in general practice in relation to a series of cases where a presentation of nightmares disguised underlying repressed traumas.
