Summary

Patient dislike of regular asthma medication is not linked to general asthma concerns or lung function. Specific dislikes, such as for daily use or steroids, predict attitudes toward prescribed asthma treatments.

  • To explore predictors of negative attitudes towards regular asthma medication.

  • A survey was conducted with 391 asthma patients, assessing dislike of medication and life interference.
  • A questionnaire measured dislike of physical, social, and emotional functioning interference due to asthma.
  • 320 patients (82% response rate) completed the survey.

  • Four distinct attitude clusters were identified: dislike of medication, disability, public life interference, and social/emotional interference.
