Hypothyroidism is frequently associated with von Willebrand

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the prevalence of von Willebrand's disease during hypothyroidism.
  • To examine the impact of thyroid hormone replacement therapy on vWD factors, tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), and plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI).

Main Methods:

  • Prospective study of eleven hypothyroid patients.
  • Monitoring of Factor VIII coagulant activity (VIIIc), von Willebrand factor antigen (vWf:Ag), and von Willebrand factor ristocetin cofactor activity (vWf:RCo).
