Evolution of a patient education program in a rural hospital

An interdisciplinary Patient Education Committee developed strategies which would ensure adequate and consistent patient education. Four major projects merged: 1) a Patient and Family Teaching Policy; 2) in-house development of teaching handouts; 3) a Patient Education Television network, and 4) a Patient Education Materials list available on the Hospital Information System. Soon all teaching handouts will also be available in that format.
