Area of Science:

  • Pulmonology
  • Interventional Radiology

Background:

  • Lung abscess is a severe lung infection requiring effective treatment.
  • Percutaneous drainage is an alternative to surgical intervention.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of percutaneous drainage for lung abscess treatment.

Main Methods:

  • CT-guided percutaneous catheter drainage was performed in 6 patients.
  • Drainage duration and outcomes were recorded.

Main Results:

  • Successful treatment in 5 of 6 patients (83%).
  • Complete resolution in 4 patients; partial in 1.
  • Concurrent pleural empyema resolved in 2 patients.
  • CT guidance ensured safe puncture site selection.

Conclusions:

  • Percutaneous catheter drainage is a safe and effective method for treating lung abscess.
  • It offers a minimally invasive approach with high success rates.
