[Illness and health from a theological-philosophical viewpoint]

The rivalry between priest and physician is more than a curious reminiscence from greco-roman antiquity and the hebrew precursors of christianity (or their medieval aftermath). The guild of physicians has, by its successfully marketed success, outrun the clergy; it fell itself, however, into crisis. A spiritual turn to the roots in prophecy leads theologians to a more realistic self-assessment as defenders of the suffering creature and to new partnership with a novel physician who perceives scientific omnipotence and therefore limits himself to serve the ill.
