[Mucoviscidosis. Therapeutic strategies and survival]
1Abteilung Kinderheilkunde I, Medizinischen Hochschule Hannover.
Abstract:
The life expectancy of patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) has increased considerably during the last decades due to improved therapy; one third of German CF patients has now grown into adult-hood. The present paper describes the main therapeutic principles: oral antistaphylococcal treatment, therapy of chronic bronchopulmonary infection with Pseudomonas aeruginosa using intravenous, inhaled or--in adults--oral antibiotics, and improved regimens for the treatment of malnutrition. Finally, survival data from different CF centres are presented.
