[Suction of secondary cataracts and complications]

Background:
Surgical polishing of cataracta secundaria could be an alternative to YAG-Laser capsular opening for the remaining of an intact capsule while keeping the complications rate low.
Patients And Methods:
We reviewed retrospectively findings of 104 operated eyes of 90 patients. The procedures were performed by two experienced surgeons. A group of 6000 cataract operated patients was taken into consideration as a reference group.
Results:
The visual acuity increased significantly during the early period after surgery (0.2 preop to 0.6 postop). In 104 operated eyes no capsular rupture or anesthetic complications occurred.
Conclusions:
The surgical peeling of opaque posterior capsule due to cataracta secundaria is therefore the favorite alternative to YAG-capsulotomy in myopic eyes (axial length more than 25 mm) for remaining an intact posterior capsule.
