Summary
Severe anaphylactoid reactions from contrast media absorption during voiding cystourethrography (VCUG) or retrograde pyelography (RGP) are rare but possible. Urologists and radiologists must be prepared for and able to treat these contrast medium reactions.
Area of Science:
- Radiology
- Urology
- Pharmacology
Background:
- Contrast media absorption via the urothelium can lead to severe anaphylactoid reactions.
- Anaphylactoid reactions during voiding cystourethrography (VCUG) and retrograde pyelography (RGP) are a potential risk.
