Decision making in surgery: management of a leaking gastrointestinal anastomosis

A leaking anastomosis is a rare though important complication of abdominal surgery, but when it occurs a series of important decisions have to be made to ensure successful treatment. Surgery forms only a small part of its management and the trainee must understand the principles involved in the care of such a case.
