Abstract:
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) affects up to 25% of the population and accounts for about 40% of patients referred to consultant gastroenterologists (Nagvi and Prout, 1983). Despite this, much of the medical and dietary research is conflicting and inconclusive. This article discusses the variety of symptoms and treatments associated with IBS and the nursing management of the condition.
