Nasal septal neurinoma

Summary

A rare case of nasal septal neurinoma, a benign nerve sheath tumor, was successfully treated in a 71-year-old male. Complete surgical resection achieved a favorable outcome with no recurrence observed post-operation.

Background:

Neurinomas, also known as schwannomas, are benign nerve sheath tumors.
Nasal septal neurinomas are exceptionally rare, presenting diagnostic and surgical challenges.

Observation:

A 71-year-old male presented with nasal obstruction and epistaxis.
Physical examination revealed a giant mass occupying the nasal cavity and nasopharynx.
Initial biopsy suggested neurofibroma, but final pathology confirmed neurinoma.

Findings:

The neurinoma extensively involved the nasal septum and both nasal cavities, extending into the nasopharynx.
Histological examination showed a mixture of Antoni type A and type B cells.
Complete surgical resection was performed under general anesthesia.

Implications:

This case highlights the importance of thorough pathological examination for accurate diagnosis of nasal tumors.
Complete resection is crucial for managing nasal septal neurinomas and preventing recurrence.
Early diagnosis and surgical intervention can lead to favorable outcomes for patients with this rare condition.
