Acute postinfectious crural myalgia in children

Summary

This study describes a group of children who developed severe calf pain after a viral illness. The condition followed an influenza-like episode and was associated with elevated muscle enzymes. Despite these findings, electromyography and one muscle biopsy were normal. All patients recovered completely. The researchers suggest this may be a new or underreported postviral syndrome in the U.S. The findings may help doctors recognize this condition in the future.
