Plasma prolactin (PRL) levels rise during sleep, closely linked to delta waves. This study reveals a significant coupling between PRL secretion and slow-wave sleep activity in healthy men.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the precise temporal relationship between prolactin secretion and sleep electroencephalographic (EEG) activity.
  • To clarify the association between PRL pulses and specific sleep stages, particularly delta waves.

  • Collected plasma PRL concentrations at 10-minute intervals in 10 healthy men during overnight sleep.
  • Calculated PRL secretory rates using deconvolution.
