Persistent pain associated with long-term intrathecal morphine administration

Summary

A patient with chronic pain resistant to opioids showed higher levels of morphine-3-glucuronide than morphine-6-glucuronide. This metabolite ratio may explain opioid resistance and guide future pain management strategies.

Morphine metabolism, particularly the ratio of morphine-3-glucuronide (M3G) to morphine-6-glucuronide (M6G), is implicated in analgesic effects and side effects.
