A pilot study of the effect of soft contact lenses on intraocular pressure

It is common for the initial application of any contact lens to a cornea to produce an irritative response. There is almost no information in the literature regarding what effect this irritation produces, particularly upon the intraocular pressure (IOP). In this study we analyzed IOP changes in soft contact lens wearers of six months time. The results showed no significant difference between pre-fit IOP and that after six months. Based on individual responses there may be some implications for the use of IOP measurement when fitting soft contact lenses.
