Area of Science:

  • Immunology
  • Dermatology
  • Infectious Diseases

Background:

  • Leukocytoclastic vasculitis has diverse etiologies including infections, neoplasms, and autoimmune disorders.
  • Cryoglobulinemia is a critical differential diagnosis for leukocytoclastic vasculitis.
  • A significant proportion of patients with "idiopathic" cryoglobulinemia are now identified as having hepatitis C virus infection.
