    Summary

Measuring carbon isotope ratios in human growth hormone may detect doping. Humatrope showed a distinct ratio compared to other products, but low kidney clearance limits this doping detection strategy.

    Area of Science:

    • Biochemistry
    • Endocrinology
    • Sports Science

    Background:

    • Human pituitary growth hormone (hGH) is used therapeutically and illicitly.
    • Detecting exogenous hGH is crucial for anti-doping efforts.
    • Carbon isotope ratio analysis is a potential method for differentiating sources.
