Abstract:
Little attention has been given to the concept of stepfamilies in nursing literature. However, nurse educators can help their students to assist natural parents and stepparents create a more supportive and loving environment for themselves and their biological children and their stepchildren. The author identifies key issues that nurse educators need to teach student nurses related to stepfamilies based on research and a review of the literature, offering interventions that include material resources and referrals to national organizations whose focus is on stepfamilies.
