[Can medicine still be financed? The economist's viewpoint]

Will we be able to finance the healthcare system over the next years? Where are the problems? Do we want to finance a healthcare system, hospitals, physicians or health? There are a lot of causes for the explosion of costs in the public health system. The recommendations of the economists concerning this fact are simple. But the anonymous market or other incentive systems are not sufficient to control the public health system. There are undesirable consequences of these instruments. We will have to accept that allocation policy is responsible for public health. How much satisfaction of what needs will we give up, and who should decide on that subject? At last we will have to learn that life is not for sale and its prolongation is not possible at any price.
