Persistent thallium-201 (201Tl) myocardial perfusion defects often normalize on resting reinjection scintigraphy. However, clinical, electrocardiographic, and exercise hemodynamic variables could not predict this normalization in patients with persistent defects.

  • Persistent myocardial perfusion defects on thallium-201 (201Tl) scintigraphy are common.
  • Resting reinjection scintigraphy can reveal normalization of these defects.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the predictive value of clinical, electrocardiographic, and exercise hemodynamic variables for normalization of persistent 201Tl myocardial perfusion defects.

Main Methods:

  • 159 patients with persistent 201Tl defects were studied.
  • Patients were classified based on normalization by reinjection scintigraphy.
  • Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to identify predictors of normalization.

Main Results:

  • No significant differences were found between normalized and non-normalized groups regarding gender, angina, rate-pressure product, exercise duration, ECG changes, Q waves, LVH, or number of defects.
