Summary

Higher socioeconomic status (SES) in Nigeria is linked to Westernized lifestyles, increasing the risk of coronary heart disease. This study found higher LDL-cholesterol in higher SES individuals, independent of BMI, despite a generally lean population and low-fat diet.
