Summary

Acetabular labral tears, common in hip disease, were analyzed in 37 patients. Degenerative tears were most frequent, with radial flap tears being the most common morphology observed during hip arthroscopy.

Area of Science:

  • Orthopedics
  • Hip Arthroscopy
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Acetabular labral tears are a recognized component of hip joint pathology.
  • Understanding tear patterns is crucial for effective diagnosis and treatment.
  • Hip arthroscopy provides direct visualization for analyzing these tears.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To analyze the patterns of acetabular labral tears in patients undergoing hip arthroscopy.
  • To categorize tears based on etiology and morphology.
  • To provide insights into the prevalence of different tear types.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 37 patients who underwent hip arthroscopy.
  • Classification of labral tears by etiology (traumatic, degenerative, idiopathic, congenital).

Related Experiment Videos

  • Classification of labral tears by morphology (radial flap, radial fibrillated, longitudinal peripheral, unstable).
  • Main Results:

    • Degenerative etiology was the most common (48.6%), followed by idiopathic (27.1%) and traumatic (18.9%).
    • Radial flap tears represented the most frequent morphology (56.8%).
    • Other morphologies included radial fibrillated (21.6%), longitudinal peripheral (16.2%), and unstable (5.4%) tears.

    Conclusions:

    • Acetabular labral tears exhibit diverse etiologies and morphologies.
    • Degenerative causes and radial flap tears are predominant.
    • This classification aids in understanding the pathology of hip disease and guiding treatment strategies.
