A decision model for competitive bidding

Competitive bidding and selective contracting, an alternative mechanism for harnessing competitive forces, are already fairly common in the private sector. Interest in competitive bidding as a mechanism for setting fee schedules is growing in the health care sector. This article focuses on bidding as an alternative to price negotiation. The techniques and problems discussed here are applicable when the bidder has only one chance to make a bid.
