Background:

  • Anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction, can have varied clinical presentations.
  • Epileptic seizures are a rare but reported complication of anaphylaxis.

Observation:

  • A patient with no prior allergies experienced two episodes of anaphylactic shock following wasp stings.
  • Each episode was associated with an epileptic attack.
  • Immunological testing confirmed IgE-mediated hypersensitivity specifically to Polistes spp. wasp venom.

Findings:

  • Specific IgE levels against Polistes spp. venom were elevated (0.86 kU/I), and intradermal tests were positive.
  • Tests for Vespula spp. and Apis mellifera venoms were negative.
  • Wasp venom immunotherapy was highly effective in preventing further reactions.
