Stapedectomy surgery is a safe and effective treatment for hearing loss in patients aged 70 and older. This procedure significantly improves hearing in older adults with otosclerosis.

Background:

Otosclerosis is a common cause of conductive hearing loss.
Stapedectomy is a surgical treatment for otosclerosis.
The safety and efficacy of stapedectomy in elderly patients (70+) are not well-documented.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of stapedectomy in patients aged 70 years and older.
To compare surgical outcomes in elderly patients with otosclerosis to a younger cohort.

Retrospective review of clinical records.
Analysis of audiological data (pure-tone average) before and after surgery.
Inclusion of 154 patients, with a subgroup of 11 patients with profound hearing loss.
