Management of patients with a cardiac transplant

Cardiac transplantation is now a common treatment for cardiac failure. Although patients are living longer as supportive therapy improves, they still have a high rate of cardiac and non-cardiac surgical intervention. Careful anaesthetic management is required, including consideration of physiological changes and the consequences of drug therapy. In the absence of graft rejection, the outcome is generally good.
