    Thermal lesions in rat visual cortex revealed degenerating axon terminals primarily in layer V. Most synapses formed on dendrites, suggesting pyramidal neurons in superficial layers connect to deeper layer V pyramidal neurons.

    • To map the distribution of degenerating axon terminals after thermal lesions in the rat visual cortex.
