[Opportunistic lymphoma]
Malignant lymphoma is one of the most common complications in patients under immunodeficiency. Such lymphomas, termed as opportunistic lymphoma, are growing in these days because of the high prevalence of AIDS and the wide introduction of organ/bone marrow transplantation. The Epstein-Barr virus has been regarded as the sole causative agent of this condition. Recent studies, however, added another new virus, the Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) as the second pathogen of this condition. Insufficient immunological surveillance on these patients seems to permit the virus-transformed host cells to proliferate, which finally lead to the tumor formation.
