Phytohemagglutinin (PHA)/interleukin-2 (IL-2) activated lymphocytes enhance human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class 1 typing sensitivity. For class 2 HLA typing, DNA methods are superior, suggesting a combined approach for optimal HLA antigen detection.
