The bio-esthetic abutment system: an evolution in implant prosthetics
1Department of Fixed Prosthodontics, University of Southern California (USC), USA.
Abstract:
Anatomic abutments are used to correct the misplacement of an implant or any other anomaly of the recipient site, such as insufficient gingival tissue height. Since the initial introduction of anatomic abutments, modifications have been made in the abutment design. This presentation introduces one such modification of abutment application. Whereby the gingival tissue is contoured by utilization of an anatomically shaped transmucosal abutment, eliminating the necessity to fabricate a customised anatomic abutment. The materials and application of the modified system are discussed, using examples from clinical cases to illustrate the procedures.
