Summary

Blunt renal trauma can cause hypertension due to renal compression. Surgical removal of a fibrous pseudocapsule relieved hypertension in a teenage patient with Page kidney.

Background:

  • A 16-year-old male presented with hypertension after blunt renal trauma.
  • Imaging revealed a dense fibrous pseudocapsule compressing the renal parenchyma, indicative of a Page kidney.

Findings:

  • Diagnostic evaluations including CT scan, radioisotope renal scan, renal Doppler, and angiogram confirmed the Page kidney diagnosis.
  • The hypertension was directly attributed to the renal parenchymal compression caused by the pseudocapsule.

Implications:

  • Surgical decompression by removing the renal capsule and pseudocapsule proved curative for the patient's hypertension.
  • This case highlights the importance of considering Page kidney as a cause of posttraumatic hypertension and the efficacy of surgical intervention.
